Midwinter is a musical project. The word matters. A band is a structure that exists between its records, that needs forward motion to keep existing. A project is something else. It exists when there is something to make. It can be quiet for as long as the quiet asks, and return when the return is true.

This one began at the turn of the century, in Nantes, France, between brothers and friends. Two records came out of it, the second in 2007. Then the years did what years do. Some of what Midwinter was could not be brought forward; some of what it became, only the time away could have made.

What remains is not a recovery of the old. It is what the old made possible. The same name, because the name was always larger than any single moment of it. The same care for melody, heaviness, and diversity. A return, but not a reunion. A continuation, but not a sequel.

There is no schedule. A Midwinter release happens when it is ready, and not before — because that is the only way the music gets to be what it needs to be.
